~ We will have themed block packets to take home ~ either to make for a loved one, or to donate as a charity quilt block.

Chinese Auction
It's in the planning and Nancy H. has put out the call for items to be donated for the Chinese auction , that is scheduled for March 2,2010. She is asking for any items that you might no longer need and willing to donate for a good evening of fun and bidding. The items don't necessarily have to be sewing related, but can be any household item. For example: candles, picture frames, cooking items, decorating items, garden things...etc. She is collecting at all the meetings thru February and can't wait to put the items in gift baskets for the auction. Nancy is also collecting any 2 1/2 inch strips you might have and also any width strips for donation to the auction. Thanks for your help.

President's Challenge
Our new president, Kathy has challenged us to create a small quilt that represents friendship and what our group means to us individually. Don't panic you have until the holiday party in December to create your quilt. It doesn't need to be big, just a small quilt size.

A Bit of Alaska in Arizona
Two ladies from Alaska will be our guests on January 19, 2010, Mary Stenros and Becky Moore. Evelyn Link met them while visiting her sister, Hazel, last summer in Soldotna.
Mary Stenros started designing a series of quilt patterns using Alaskan wildlife as her subject. Since then she has expanded the pattern series to include The Western Series, The North American Series, The Vanishing Series, and Favorite Places Series. She is introducing a couple new patterns, a covered bridge and a lighthouse. Take a look on the Willow Bend Creations web site: www.willowbendcreations.com
Mary and Becky will give us an overview of the easy technique that will produce a wall hanging or pillow cover.
Would you like to make one of these beautiful quilts? Here’s your chance! Becky and Mary will teach a class for us on January 20. You can sign up for the class at the January 19th meeting.
Here are all of the details:
Date: January 20, 2010
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Evelyn’s house
Cost: $25.00
