NIMBLE THIMBLES COMMUNITY SERVICE

Quilters are known for their generosity and Nimble Thimbles members are no exception.

For the year from July 2023 - June 2024 we donated 261 quilts and 12 afghans to nonprofit organizations.   The organizations supported through quilt donations included: Gathering Humanity (78), Hospice of the Valley (Dobson House)(28), Infinity Hospice (63), Chandler Pregnancy Care Center (19),  and VA Moms and Babies Program (73).   There were 43 of our members that contributed to the effort.

Members donated quilts made from their own fabric or the remaining quilt kits that were available from our Community Service Committee. You can sew the entire quilt or help with the binding, quilting, or piecing.

The Nimble Thimbles Community Service program is run by a team of people who make all of the organization and donations possible. If you would like to participate in a more hands on manner, please contact Penny Boese, team lead, at 480-862-3129. Thank you to Darla Orndorff and Melissa Bickham for organizing, storing and delivering all of our completed quilts. Melissa handed off 47 quilts and 12 Afghans this year, while 214 quilts passed through Darla’s hands. A huge thank you to Kathy O’Brien and Judy Locke who helped apply labels and organize quilts at meetings, and an additional thank you to Kathy for taking all of our scraps of batting and resurrecting them so they could be used in new quilts. Thank you to everyone who helped hold quilts at meetings so that we could show off our work: Darla, Kathy, Melissa, Judy, Diane Pitchford, Heather Nothum, Leslie Vidler and Debbie Kattleman. If I left your name off the list, I apologize; we often had people step up to help when we had soooo many to show! A special thanks to Debbie Ament and Leslie Schneider for always asking for work and being so prolific that many projects touched their hands. Leslie Vidler and Debbie Kattleman, thank you for sticking around and helping us get this year off to such a great start.

Thank you to all of the quilters – both domestic and long arm – who turn our tops into quilts. Your contribution is priceless. We always appreciate when people complete a quilt start to finish, but those of you who turn in tops that are magically completed by our longarmers and domestic quilters, you understand how important this is! So thank you! And finally, thank you to the people who put the finishing touches on our quilts by beautifully binding them. All of you are important and all of you have the deepest thanks from your Community Service team!
