November Meetings

There is a change in meeting dates for November. We will be meeting on the 2nd Tuesday and 3rd Tuesday of the month.

November 12 - Our program will be provided by Pat Knoechel from Quilt in a Day.    Pat is Eleanor Burns' sister.  We have been fortunate to have Pat present programs to us in the past and they are always great!  She usually brings books, rulers, and patterns for sale.  The meeting is held in in Classroom 6. Park on the east side of the Church building and enter through the open entryway.

Additionally at the November 19 meeting, we will be having a Great Pumpkin  celebration:  Everyone is invited to bring his or her favorite pumpkin creation (one we can eat--not an artfully carved jack-o-lantern) and we will have a pumpkin patch feast!  As an added bonus, if each quilter who is bringing something yummy would email the recipe to Mary the week before, let's say the deadline is Thursday, Nov. 14, she will put together a copy of all of the recipes for everyone to take home.  Please write RECIPE in the subject line to make it easy for her to recognize.

We all enjoyed the presentations at Nimble Thimbles Quilter's University.  I tried using a Haiku Deck presentation along with my actual paper piecing samples.  I thought some of you might like to be able to review it again.   Just click on the center of the picture to advance through the slides.   Haiku Deck is new to me and so I'm learning different ways to use it.

Color Challenge

We thought it would be great to get a challenge going this year. The challenge is to make a finished project using only black, white, and your favorite color.  You can use as many shades as you want of your favorite color.  The project can be any size you want and can be an item such as a bag or pot holder.  It just needs to be finished!  The challenge items are due at the Christmas party.

Good luck!

Spring Quilt Camp April 11-14

If you’d like to spend a weekend working on your projects, sleeping, eating, walking, talking and laughing, laughing, oh and quilting, then join us at Emmanuel Pines in Prescott.  We start at 2:00pm on Thursday, (Yes, we do have Thursday!) and we have the space until 2:00pm on Sunday.  Our camp is very easy, the only times to remember is when camp starts, when it finishes and when it’s time to eat!

The only requirement is that everyone (your sister, Mom, Aunt, friend) MUST belong to AQG.  This is for insurance purposes.  There are NO exceptions.

Costs: Friday - Sunday = $84.00, Thursday to Sunday = $98.00.

The $10 deposit is Non-Refundable, and no refunds are given less than 30 days prior to camp.

For those that have not enjoyed camp before - here are some things to plan for:

  - Emmanuel Pines starts cooking for us at Friday dinner.

     - Some of us do a potluck for Thursday dinner; others go into Prescott.

               - Same for Friday breakfast/lunch

  - We have a quilting gift exchange - $20 limit.  If you bring a gift, you'll get a gift.  Please wrap your gift.  We usually do the exchange on Saturday after lunch.  Participate only if you want to.

  - We have a small quilt auction on Saturday night.  Money goes to the camp fund.  Again, participate only if you want to.

  - We hand out Door Prizes on Friday night so you can shop the local stores on Saturday!

  - Bring munchies to share... bring drinks and ice (we have space on the deck for coolers), coffee, tea and hot chocolate is provided by Emmanuel Pines. (Bring a coffee cup, they only provide those little tiny Styrofoam cups).

Here is a link to the Emmanuel Pines website, check out the sewing/sleeping spaces and directions to camp.

We sleep in the Oak Lodge and sew in the Cedar Chapel.

Questions?  Or to sign up for camp; please see me at one of the meetings or you can email me.  If you can’t find me – then feel free to give your money to Kathy O’Brien (our Treasurer).

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

Every new year brings with it it's own expectations, opportunities, limitations and change. Some doors open, others close. Quilters are a hardy breed. We've known how to work within limitations, for that is where quilting has come from. Some call it frugality, or thriftiness. I prefer 'artistic challenge'.
This year, both our Chapter and AQG will offering wonderful opportunities for learning,  creating and showing quilts. Be sure to check the AQG website and this blog for upcoming opportunities. Kathy Krieg and Becky Brown are putting a banner year of activities together, so let's enjoy their hard work, along with ours and have indeed, a happy new year.

your President,
Joanne Reiter
