ARTFUL COUCHING: RACHEL DERSTINE
Please join Nimble Thimbles for our November Zoom meeting. This month's speaker arranged by our Program Coordinator Michelle will be on Artful Couching. The Zoom speaker presentation will start at 7:00pm with the Business Meeting to follow.
Rachel Derstine is an art quilter living in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been featured in invitational and juried gallery shows and fine art/craft shows throughout the country. She primarily uses hand dyed or painted cottons, silks and nonwovens but also has a love of Asian fabrics and kimono silks, incorporating these ancient traditional fabrics into her compositions. Use of sheers, couching and fabric paints give a sense of depth and texture. Slightly curving lines portray gracefulness and circles are often present representing wholeness and creativity.
Plan to join us - the Zoom link will be sent out via email closer to the meeting by our President Melissa.
Congratulations on Nimble Thimbles Chapter turning 40!!!!
You are cordially invited to our Birthday Party celebration.

ROCK YOUR QUILTING
Our Program Coordinator Michelle has another great program set up for the Zoom meeting 10/18/22 (7:00-9:00pm). We will have our Business Meeting right after the program:
Though born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Eleanor Levie (rhymes with Chevy) has a personality that is less Baltimore Album and more Crazy Quilt. Home is Center City Philadelphia, where she and the husband take walks all over town and rarely get in the car—except to visit family in Baltimore. And once in a while, as Covid-regulations permit, they get on a plane to visit their son, daughter-in-law, and grandbaby who now live in Boulder, Colorado.
Elly is a prolific and innovative quilter of quilted gifts such as pillows, table runners, tote bags, and embellished jackets. And as an art quilter, she's as likely to use paint and dye and recycled packaging as she is to piece, machine-applique, and quilt. In fact, she dabbles in every technique she can find. That being said, she's got a respected professional persona, too: From 1978 until 2012, she authored, edited, and produced books such as: Quilt Blocks Go Wild!, Unforgettable TOTE BAGS, Skinny Quilts & Table Runners I and II. All feature Elly’s original designs but also those by famous quilters you know and love. Previously, Elly produced the Rodale’s Successful Quilting Library series, authored Great Little Quilts, Country Living's Country Quilts. American Quiltmaking: 1970-2000 is her history book, chock full of pictures of iconic quilts and the stories behind them.Nimble Thimbles will be holding our October 2022 Small Quilt and Craft Auction

Program Speaker:
Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis
Our Nimble Thimbles Programs Coordinator has scheduled Tammy Silvers to present a lecture and a trunk show of her quilts to our membership during our regular meeting via Zoom on the third Tuesday 9/20/22. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm - the agenda will be sent out by our Nimble Thimbles President closer to the meeting date.
Tammy's presentation is titled Interrogating Your Quilt (description below):
Don't be nice about - force that fabric to talk to you! Get the real info on how it can work for you to help you achieve your "quilt" vision. This humor-laden lecture focuses on getting the most from your fabric choices and how fabric can (and does) influence the finished quilt! Supported by plenty of quilt examples from Tammy's retinue of quilts - good and bad!
Tammy Silver has taught at a variety of quilt shops as well as online. She designs and self-publishes her own quilt patterns under the label Tamarinis. Under the label Tamarinis, she has had her designs regularly published in a variety of quilt magazines. She works with some of the major fabric manufacturers designing projects to showcase and promote their fabric lines including Northcott, Free Spirit, Maywood, Dear Stella and Timeless Treasures. She has designed fabrics for Island Batik and has a thread line with Aurifil the coordinates with her current Island Batik line.

A
kit - is set of objects, as in a toolkit. A caboodle - is a term meaning group
or collection, usually of people.
Let's put the two together and see how many community service quilt kits we can complete in an evening. We’ll form teams of 3.
You
can select your team members before the meeting and/or we can form teams
Tuesday evening. We need members to bring sewing machines. We will have irons
and ironing boards.
Community Service has ~40 kits all ready to sew. So start forming your teams
and planning your strategies! Prizes will be awarded throughout the night!
